Why are we called amateurs?
The term "amateur" is not a reflection on the skills of the participants, which are often quite advanced; rather, "amateur" indicates that amateur communications are not allowed to be made for commercial or money-making purposes (an amateur is "a person who engages in a study, sport, or other activity for pleasure rather than for financial benefit or professional reasons." ie NOT a professional).
